The Burroughs
The Burroughs
Since humble beginnings in the summer of 2013, The Burroughs have been playing and dancing their way into the hearts of dedicated fans throughout Northern Colorado and beyond. The band's trademark “sweaty soul music” features a polished four-piece horn section, a powerhouse rhythm section, and charismatic and multi-talented front-man Johnny Burroughs. Together the band's nine members create a sound that invokes the spirit of soul heroes such as Otis Redding, James Brown, and Bill Withers. Though The Burroughs got their start covering classic music from some of their favorite artists, the band truly shines on their collection of catchy and dance-able originals. Their first full-length album titled Sweaty Greeley Soul was recorded live at the Moxi Theater in Greeley, CO in May of 2015 and released in July of 2015. In April of 2016, they released two new studio singles- "You Are My Joy" and "1968"- recorded at Mighty Fine studios in Denver with engineer Colin Bricker and produced by drummer and mentor Jim White.

The Burroughs are known for high-energy, crowd-friendly live shows that are guaranteed to get audience members moving. The band has performed at FoCoMX, New West Fest, Tour de Fat, FORToberfest, and has headlined the Greeley Block Party. They have opened for national touring acts including the Steve Miller Band, and Sir Mix-A-Lot and have performed in historic Front Range venues including The Aggie, the Boulder Theater, and The Fox Theatre. All members of the group proudly call Greeley, Colorado home.

“If you left it up to me to describe Retrofette’s sound, I would liken it to what might have happened if Broken Bells, Julian Casablancas, Prince, and David Bowie had the chance to record a song together. Is it that good?! Yes, yes it is.” - BolderBeat Magazine June 2018

Denver-based Retrofette is the byproduct of keyboardists Sean Culliton and Xavier Provencher's love for vintage synthesizers and sweaty dance floors. Joined by synth bassist Ben Weirich and drummer Dylan Johnson on stage, the quartet’s brand of 80s tinged synthpop was born in March 2016 and has since garnered a steadfast following.

In June 2018 Retrofette released its latest single, Lover in Japan, a summery dance anthem that inspired by classic 80s new wave. Retrofete has shared the stage with acts such as Anomalie, Magic Sword, Fever the Ghost, and Mark Mallman. They have played on the legendary Red Rocks stage, sold out audiences at Denver venues Hi Dive and Ophelia’s, and were selected as the Best Pop of 2017 act in Colorado by Westword Magazine.
